Feedback time! (plus some cool links)

bright-idea

I have been writing this blog for a bit over a month now and I thought that it would be good to get some feedback from the site’s readers – i.e. you folks!

I am completely open to any feedback you may have, constructive or not. So if you have any ideas/thoughts/suggestions/complaints then you can either leave a comment or drop me an email at blog [at] porteightyeight.com.

Some questions I am trying to answer are:

  • How do you feel about the content? Is it too complex, too simple, too much, too little?
  • What would you like to see more (or less) of?
  • Are they any topics that you would like to see covered? I am always open to suggestions.

I would like to reiterate the last point – if there is anything you would like to see covered please let me know and I will do my best to satisfy your curiosity.

Now that is over and done with, here are some interesting links I have collected over the last few weeks…

Some Cool Links

  • John Resig’s Processing.js – You must have been living under a rock to miss this one, but here it is anyway.
  • FirePHP – An interesting debugging tool which uses custom HTTP headers. I think it could be handy in some circumstances, but I will still use Zend Studio + DBG (see my debugging article) for most of my debugging.
  • Warehouse – A very nice web-based Subversion interface. Well worth the $30 price tag.
  • FreeAgent – A handy web-based money management tool for freelancers and small companies. You can also get the invoicing subset of features from Blinksale.
  • Nirvanix – An online storage solution for which there is a Zend Framework Service, Zend_Service_Nirvanix
  • Merlin2 – An excellent project management tool for OS X. I also had a play with OmniPlan which is slightly more usable, but Merlin2 seems more feature-complete.
  • Yuuguu – I met these guys at FOWA last year, but used this software for the first time this week and it really helped me fix some problems a client was having.
  • MySQL Workbench – An excellent tool for designing your MySQL schemas for which I have just purchased a license (a free community version is available but lacks some important features). There is no OS X version as yet, so I am running it using VMWare Fusion for now.
