Port Eighty Eight Blog Launches

fireworks

I chose the name Port Eighty Eight as I want this blog to be a little ‘alternative’ to the other offerings out there[1]. I am planning to cover the more advanced aspects of web development, but I am happy to take requests for any areas you would like to hear me discuss. I am also going to be looking for other developers who would be interested in contributing to this blog, as I would like to avoid it becoming too PHP-focused.

To kick things off I thought I would give you a quick overview of my background. I have been working as a web developer for nearly 10 years, a journey which has taken me from thinking “isn’t this <hr> tag cool!” on my Geocities account, all the way to managing sites which take millions of impressions per day. Needless to say I have learnt (and forgotten!) a fair amount along the way, and it is these experiences I would like to write about. My skills are reasonably focused around LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) development environments, but I hope to cover more than just programming topics.

So watch this space…

[1] And, of course, because the domain was available!
